Only one month to go❗️ From 10 June 2024, cats in England will need to be microchipped and registered on a database by the time they’re 20 weeks old. 🧑⚕️ Be sure to contact your vet to book in an appointment. Microchipping will help reunite you with your cat if they ever become lost. Even indoor-only cats should be microchipped because they are also at risk of becoming lost. Owners could face a fine of up to £500 if they do not microchip their cat by the required deadline. #WorldAsthmaDay Noticed your cat coughing? 🐈 Cats can get asthma, sometimes called inflammatory airway disease, and coughing could be a sign. Coughing can look a little like the cat is trying to be sick and may be mistaken for hairballs. Taking a video to show your vet is the best way to establish if the cat is truly coughing. The terms ‘feline asthma’ and ‘chronic bronchitis’ are often used interchangeably in cats and are used to describe chronic disease of the small airways (bronchioles) within the lungs. This award is given to vets or vet nurses who have demonstrated the ability to inspire others consistently throughout their career. Her nominator, Louise Northway RVN, said of Alexandra “She is probably the most 'well known' feline RVN in our industry and that is a result of years of hard work... Her influence is so positive because she is authentic, strong and kind.” We are so fortunate to have Alex as part of the International Cat Care team and will continue to support her brilliant work that is having a huge impact for cats everywhere. Not sure how microchipping works? 🤔 Here’s how it usually goes 👇 💉 The vet will use a needle to insert the microchip under the skin, usually at the back of your cat's neck. 🧑💻 The microchip has a unique code that will be registered against your address and stored in a database. 🛜 If your cat becomes lost, a vet can scan your cat’s microchip for the code and search the database for your contact details. 📞 It’s important that you keep your details up to date by contacting the database you are registered with. There may be a small admin fee to change details, but it is important to keep them accurate. 🧑⚕️ If you've forgotten your cat’s microchip number, you can ask your vet to scan your cat at your next visit. 🐈 Remember, a microchip provides the best chance of you being reunited with your cat if they are lost.
